The Roomba 694 by iRobot is an entry-level robot vacuum that works well on carpets with a low pile or bare floor. It has good suction however, it struggles with larger debris such as grains of rice or sand. It also does a decent job at cleaning pet hair, but it's not immune to tangling like high-end Roomba models such as the I6 or j7.
The Roomba 694 is simple to use. It has a trio of buttons on its top cover: 'Clean' starts a cleaning cycle and 'Dock' allows it to be put back into its charging station, and 'Spot Clean' triggers a targeted clean. You can control it via a smartphone application that allows you to schedule cycles, stop/start them and adjust settings. You can also connect the device with smart home devices such as Alexa or Google Assistant to control it through voice commands.
This vacuum cleaner is slower than some others, but it is able to get into the most crevices and corners. It has a large bin that makes it easy to empty. It is compatible with digital mapping and virtual barriers which lets you set the robot to avoid certain areas or stop cleaning altogether to avoid it from getting stuck.
It's not the top for its price, but it's superior to other models. The Roborock E4 has a better cleaning capability than the Roomba 694 and it can clean both carpets with a low pile and bare. It also follows the most efficient cleaning method and has longer battery life. It is also more comfortable to use, has fewer parts that require regular maintenance, is less expensive to own over its lifetime and charges more quickly than the 694.
It's also worth considering other models that are more expensive in the iRobot line, like the 981 or the v7. They're more expensive, but they offer significant improvements over the 694 in terms of performance on both low- and bare floors. They also follow a more efficient cleaning route and have a larger dirt compartment, are faster to charge, maneuver themselves more easily, and are more easy to connect with smart home devices.
Shark RV1001AE IQ
This budget self-emptying robot vacuum cleaner does a great job on low-pile carpet and hard flooring. Its combinator brush gets to corners and edges and automatically increases suction as soon as it spots carpet. It also is effective in cleaning dirt that is embedded in carpets that are mid-pile. The IQ's compact dock footprint and self-emptying feature are great features. If you want to change the floor level or set areas that are not allowed to be used, you'll need to manually reset the map.
The IQ app provides advanced mapping and automated features, however it lacks no-go zones. These are available only on iRobot robots. Its intelligent-pathing navigational system gives you greater maneuverability and its high-pile carpet mode cleans well, though it is prone to get caught up on rug tassels. Additionally, its iHome speaker lets you control the robot using voice commands.
During our tests, the IQ was adept at handling pet hair effectively, clearing an impressive amount of debris from floors with no flooring and fair amounts of medium-pile carpet. It was a little less effective on shag carpet, where it struggled to reach dirt and dust embedded in the fibers. It was capable of maneuvering around the legs of chairs and tight spaces, as well as the bottom of an wooden IKEA step stool. We did notice it was a little slower on bare floors but it quickly recovered and performed better than other robots we tested.
The IQ is a better option than the iRobot Roomba 694 for most applications. It has a larger dustbin and a longer battery life and is better at navigating obstacles. It comes with a mopping tool that can remove sticky mess. The iRobot, however, feels better constructed and has less components that need maintenance or replacement, incurs less cost per year, and can create virtual no-go zones using its companion app. It can even restart the cleaning process from the point it started if it is unable to recharge its battery prior to it has completed the task. The iRobot can be controlled by voice, which is a major benefit for many users.
Eufy 11S
The RoboVac 11S from Eufy isn't the most feature-rich robot vacuum around, but it does offer excellent cleaning power at a low price. The RoboVac 11S is designed for budget-conscious consumers who do not require a complicated mapping system, or an application to control it. This robot can last for up to an hour. It comes with an remote control, a cleaning tool and AC power adapter.
The 11S is slim and sleek, with an upper deck of tempered glass that covers plastic finished to look like brushed aluminum. It's a nice stylistic departure from Roomba, Samsung, and Neato designs that are more utilitarian and industrial.
In our tests, the eufy 11S was very effective in removing larger debris and fine dust on hard flooring. It was unable to thoroughly clean high-pile and medium-pile carpets. The device also has a tendency to hit furniture and people in its path however, it's able detect those obstacles using sensors. When it encounters them, it ceases to move and emits a loud sound so you can manually guide it around the obstacle and get back to work.
Another fantastic aspect of the eufy 11S is its BoostIQ mode that allows you to set the robot to automatically adjust its suction power to match the type of floor and the level of mess. It's also simple to use the remote to direct the 11S in the direction you want it to go.
Single Room Mode is a great alternative if you have a small amount of furniture in the space you'd like to vacuum. The eufy is capable of spending up to 30 minutes cleaning the space it is assigned.
Edge Cleaning is another option that limits the time spent on each area to just 20 minutes. This will increase battery life. With this option the eufy can move in a spiral fashion taking care of edges and corners to ensure a clean.
Miele Complete C1
The Miele Complete C1 canister robot is a great mid-range vacuum cleaner that is a winner on carpet. Its performance is also exceptional on floors that are not bare. It can pick up rice and other small particles effortlessly. The suction power doesn't drop when the dirt bin is full. Its design that is allergy-friendly and sealed with air captures allergens to keep your family healthy. It has an onboard HEPA and self-emptying bin, which means you don't require additional filters or vacuum bags.
It's not as effective as other models, but is still excellent for deep cleaning and fighting the toughest stains. It has two front cameras that deliver live feeds to your smartphone. It also has one of the most advanced obstacle avoidance systems. It also has a big dustbin, long runtime, and a fast clean-up that is free of bumps.
The Complete C1 is unlike most robots because it can switch between two heads, a standard and a turbo for different types of flooring. The turbo head is best with high-pile or low-pile carpeting, while the standard powerhead is good for floors with no flooring and light rug. It also comes with an automatic height adjustment system, which allows it to easily adjust to different kinds of flooring, without manual adjustments.
